Anonymous asked: Last one and I shall leave you alone ;) You are travelling across country with your friends, encountering local militia along the way. You have to choose a weapon that is rugged, survives water well, does not need regular cleaning, fairly compact for speed but is able to defend you well in a firefight. What gun do you choose and why?
Rugged, survives water well and does not need regular cleaning…I’m going to have to go with the AK-47 or RPK (which is just a long barreled RPK). If I’m moving through an urban environment then the RPK’s longer barrel will make things a bit more difficult.
Local militia leads me to think I’ll run into other AK’s which means nice supply of ammo and magazines if need be.
In regards to the water issue, this reminds me of a documented encounter with an AK-47. Rhodesian troops who carried the FAL noticed a boat full of enemies trying to cross a river. The Rhodesians opened fire, killing everyone on the little boat. Their bodies and weapons falling to the river bottom.
A few months later during the dry season, the river had dried up and the same unit noticed an AK sticking out in the mud. It was from the same boat they had shot at. They pulled the AK out of the mud, noticed the mag still had ammo but was caked so it wouldn’t feed. They cleaned the magazine but not the rifle. Surprisingly the AK still functioned after being on a muddy river bottom for months.
