Desert Eagle XIX .44 Magnum

The model before Magnum Research was bought by Kahr Arms. Newer Desert Eagle XIX models have the picatinny rail atop the barrel. Note the fluting on the side of the barrel. This is also present on the .357 model. Fluting on the exterior serves 3 purposes on rifles; reduce weight, increased barrel stiffness and improved cooling surfaces. For the Desert Eagle this was done only to reduce weight on an already hefty handgun. There are no fluted barrels on the 50 Action Express models. The bore is so big that fluting would thin the walls of the barrel.
