German soldiers with what I’ve been told is the Flammenwerfer 41. There were different models through World War II; 35, 40, 41 and 43 variants. Due to the obvious threat of troops with flamethrowers, they were often targeted first. This was countered by an attempt to camouflage the system; by covering the fuel tanks with fabric to mimic a supply pack and even hiding the shaft inside of a makeshift rifle stock. This made the flamethrower user look like a regular infantryman.
