Contact Selous Scouts during the Rhodesian Bush War. The Selous Scouts operated much like the guerrilla forces they were in combat with; ranging from kidnapping, blackmail, and car bombs. One of the most iconic images in terms of the Rhodesian Bush War (aside from the FAL) is that many of the Selous Scouts wore extremely high shorts. They had no standardized uniform. It should be noted that regular Rhodesian soldiers, such as those in the Light Infantry were banned from wearing shorts because of the serious tactical disadvantage of their “extremely white legs” being visible to the enemy in terms of detection. The Selous Scouts were still allowed to wear shorts due to their special operations nature.
