Ruger Alaskan .454 Casull
A small little revolver with a gigantic punch. You may wonder why carry something that could break your wrists? Notice the name, Alaskan. This is a big bore revolver suitable as a bear gun. When you live in bear country and you do anything outdoors, you certainly do not want to have a 9mm or .45 ACP as your defensive carry gun against a charging grizzly. I think having sore wrists after firing several shots is better than being mauled to death. The bear pictured above was killed in self-defense when it charged the man in broad daylight while he was walking his dog. Full news story in the source below.
We’re done here… Two Bosnian Croat soldiers pass by the corpse of a Bosnian Serb soldier killed in the Croatian attack on the Serb-held town of Drvar, on August 18, 1995 in western Bosnia. (Tom Dubravec/AFP/Getty Images)
War is Hell…
Syrian rebels fire upon and execute a man suspected of being a Pro-Goverment Force member. With whats happening in Syria, and now Israel and Gaza, it reminds us that war is not a 2-hour long movie, war is not a videogame with respawns. War is Hell.
Bird or Buck?
A comparison of 7.5 birdshot and 00 buckshot. Obviously the 00 will cause more severe and lethal trauma due to the size of the pellets, but the 7.5 birdshot contains about 350 pellets which can be lethal as well. The second picture is an x-ray of an individual who was shot with birdshot multiple times in the crotch. Each of those pellets will have to be removed…
Headshot… Indian soldiers retrieve the body of a dead militant. Apparently he was shot in the eye, kind of like how Jackson took out the German sniper in Saving Private Ryan.
Blood… Pakistani Special Forces members during a survival training exercise…this part requires them to eat coagulated blood in the event they are out of rations. I somewhat doubt that is human blood but at the same time conditioning someone to eat blood seems like a last resort. Why? If you’ve got blood, you usually have an animal’s carcass, which means meat. It’s possible the training here is to draw and drink or eat your own blood in extreme circumstances. The Mongols did a similar practice except on their horses, making very slight cuts so they could drink the blood for nourishment on long invasion rides.
War trophy… Afghans, probably Mujahideen/Taliban, with a grim reminder of why they’re vicious sons of bitches. Aside from the severely dried out decapitated head, note the AK. Very odd to see a late model East German MPi-KM. Identifiable from the side-folding stock but more importantly the plastic (might be bakelite) handguards. I can’t see the pistol grip design to be 100%, the East Germans had a distinct pattern on theirs.
Save some virgins for me…I’ll see you on the other side. An Afghan saying goodbye to a fellow Afghan. Not sure if they were on the same side or shooting at each other. Looks like someone got to the body before the guy with the AK, note that the dead guy is missing his shoes, and why are his pants undone? Anyway, looks like a Russian underfolder AK with a stamped receiver.
Death in motion…

The iconic execution photo in action and color. General Nguyen Ngoc Loan puts what’s probably a .38 Special into the head of a Viet Cong officer who was part of an execution squad murdering women and children.
Infamous death… The picture that pushed the negative view of the Vietnam War right into the public forefront. While many people can initially look at this photo and say it depicts cruelty and the horror of war; it does, on both sides. The man being executed is a member of the Viet Cong execution squad. He was captured near a ditch trying to dispose of the bodies of 34 Vietnamese civilians; among them women and children. His executioner is Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Loan, who’s 6 godchildren were among those in the ditch.
War… Russian soldier somberly looking into a mass grave. Not sure what happened to those civilians. This was during the First Chechen War.
Tiger I Commonly referred to as the Tiger tank. Fairly large for it’s time period, it was dwarfed by the bigger Tiger II. Note the ground clearance on this tank. I forgot what documentary it was but an American soldier mentioned how someone from his squad dropped flat onto his stomach to let the Tiger pass over him. Unfortunately the tank driver saw this, stopped the tank right over him, locked on the brakes and began to spin the tank on the soldier. He was crushed and ground up into the mud as a bloody mess of organs and bones. The soldier being interviewed called it “hamburger-ing” cause what was left of his squad member looked like hamburger meat.
Death by 81… Chinese officers execute a Tibetan girl with the Type 81 rifle. Although it replaced the Type 56, the 81 will soon experience that as the Type 95 is issued in greater numbers. Note how the other 2 officers are restraining the girl. She was shot twice; once in the head and once in the chest. Due to the close range, the 81 actually blew off the top of her head, leaving only the lower jaw and below.
Holocaust Ukrainian Nazi’s executing civilians. Early in the war genocide was done with firearms. Adolf Eichmann himself didn’t approve of firearm executions after having pieces of brain splatter onto his uniform as he observed on one occasion. There is even a documented report of an SS officer who would have his assistants toss infants into the air so he could shoot at them like a clay pigeon.
